Vinismo:Using the sidebar

From Vinismo

Jump to: navigation, search

All Vinismo pages have a sidebar on the right side of the screen. This is a unique feature created just for Vinismo - you won't find it in most other Wiki websites.

Contents of the sidebar don't appear in the main article page when you edit it. That's because the sidebar is a separate page, automatically associated to the article, the same way talk pages come with each article. See Help:Editing the sidebar.

edit Listing links to relevant pages

The sidebar should be used to facilitate navigation in Vinismo, by listing links to relevant pages or sub-sections, so that visitors don't have to click the "Back" button of their browser all the time.

For example, a page describing a country should list in its sidebar the links to the wine regions for that country. Once you click on a region, the sidebar should list all appellations for that region. Once in the appellation page, the sidebar should list all wineries for that appellation. Then the winery page should list the wines.

Once you get to a wine page, the sidebar takes another role.

edit Highlighting specific content

The sidebar can be used to highlight specific content, like the Quick Facts in wine pages.

edit Other uses

Vinismo content belongs to all of us, so if you want to use the sidebar another way, feel free to experiment.

edit Restrictions

Note that sidebars cannot include an inter-linguistic link and don't have their own Talk pages.
