edit Stub tag
The new tag for stubs is not STUB. It's STATUS1.
- OK, well, I fixed that, so they mean the same thing.
- Two other things: first, always put new comments at the end of someone's talk page. Second, don't forget to sign your comments. --Evan 08:46, 29 January 2008 (EST)

edit "IsIn" script and redirects
Is there any way we could hack the "isIn" script so that it can create the right breadcrumbs from a page where the input given is a redirect ? For example, if I write "isIn:Bordeaux supérieur", which is a redirect of "Bordeaux Supérieur" (in caps), could the script recognize the redirect so that breadcrumbs display "France:Bordeaux:Bordeaux Supérieur" ? niko - vinismo 20:24, 9 December 2007 (EST)
edit another example of image size problem

edit wine page links in producer pages
In all producer pages I've done yet, like this last one for example, I've created links to their wines in a short form to avoid character length and redundancy. Since we talked about automatically create a sidebar link in the producer's page every time a wine page is created, I think we should make it so that the link looks like this: [[Real link to the wine page|{{year}}{{name}}]]. Is this possible ? niko - vinismo 16:12, 26 November 2007 (EST)
edit oak etc.
Evan, do you want to create a special category for "encyclopedic" articles such as the ones you just created? For now we should just include a tag like {{isAnEncyclopedicArticle}} or something. Then we'd have a sidebar with a T.O.C. for this particular section. niko - vinismo 10:09, 15 November 2007 (EST)
- On Wikitravel we call stuff like that "travel topics". How about we call them "wine topics" here? And let's not do a global ToC for them yet -- let's see where they go first. --Evan 10:12, 15 November 2007 (EST)

- Your writing skills needed: Evan, could you write this ? Why Vinismo displays advertising. Thanks ! niko - vinismo 00:45, 21 July 2007 (EDT)
- Image hidden by sidebar: Should we remove the sidebar for the image namespace ? I mean, not only disable edition but also completely remove the DIV. Case in point: Image:Vinohradnicke_oblasti_Slovenska.png when accessed from Slovakia it's not displayed full screen and the legend is absent. However, I suspect this is part of CSS rather than anything editable through page code... tell me if you think that's too hard to do. It's not that important really. niko - vinismo 21:38, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
- Namespace problem: When you edit the sidebar in the Vinismo namespace, the title is "Project_sidebar" instead of "Vinismo_sidebar". This only occurs in the English Vinismo. niko - vinismo 21:41, 24 September 2007 (EDT)
- Plz move Toolbox to sidebar top when in another user's page
edit Welcome request
Howdy Evan,
Would you please give me a welcome and a few starter tips?
Thanks,
Sapphire 00:18, 14 August 2007 (EDT)
I am not sure how this works exactly. I think your web site has great potential. Have you considered adding a new section for home wine makers? That may be such a large topic that it needs it's own site. Anyway, just an idea.
edit Ideas for the wine adding wizard
I think we should have three things to fill in three separate fields, to "force" users to give as much detail as possible on the name of their wine, so that it can't be confused with another one. (see the example I showed you the other day where that winery had wine names as common as "2006 Cabernet Sauvignon"). So the 3 fields should be : YEAR - PRODUCER OR BRAND NAME - NAME OF THE WINE.
"Name of the wine" would be open to anything : appellation, grape name, etc.
Then the page name would be, in English, YEAR-PRODUCER-NAME, and in French, NAME-PRODUCER-YEAR.
What do you think ? niko - vinismo 17:22, 20 September 2007 (EDT)
- And here's another idea (maybe complex, maybe simple, I have no idea): every time a new wine is added, it's automatically added to the "new wines" section on the main page. Then again, automatizing everything is not exactly what wikis are about ? niko - vinismo 18:01, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
edit Other Ideas
Trying to add some semantic markup in there, experimenting with different approaches, see http://vinismo.com/en/2004_Liberty_School_Syrah for some examples of stuff I am trying to convey (and striving for a good balance of human readability and machine parsability) --SylvainCarle 17:45, 30 October 2007 (EDT)
edit Australia wineries
I saw your page-creation frenzy tonight in the Recent Changes. Did you finally get a database of Australian wineries? niko - vinismo 20:03, 30 January 2008 (EST)
- Based on our talks with the Wine Australia people, I just scraped their site. Got about 1600 new wineries for Australia, which I think is pretty good. --Evan 20:04, 30 January 2008 (EST)
- That's just great! niko - vinismo 20:06, 30 January 2008 (EST)
- Also if you wanna do it in French, your intro should be XXXX est un producteur de la région YYYY, en Australie.
- By the way, our new FAVICON just showed up on my browser. Cool!!! niko - vinismo 20:19, 30 January 2008 (EST)
- I already did it in French. I wrote about this in the Vinismo:Wine Bar. The wording is identical, except I left out a comma. --Evan 20:21, 30 January 2008 (EST)
edit Champagne wineries
Another automatized page creation could be made for Champagne producers. I have all their addresses and contact info on paper.... but for now you could create the pages from the empty links I have made. They are in four sub-regions as well as the region page (for the Champagne "houses") niko - vinismo 15:22, 9 February 2008 (EST)
edit Template:Varietals
Why did you roll back to the bulletted list ? I spent so much time changing it in ; and : - my idea was that it is not a navigation menu FROM a page but a table of content of SIMILAR pages. We also use this form in similar contexts such as Template:appellations or Template:Help pages or Template:Project pages. niko - vinismo 11:50, 10 February 2008 (EST)
- You're misusing definition lists for formatting. --Evan 20:50, 10 February 2008 (EST)
edit Sidebar in Opera
Just a quick note to say that the sidebar does not display correctly in Opera 9.21. Not tested in other versions --Hugo 08:46, 29 January 2008 (EST)
edit Sidebar in resources namespace
If we have a sidebar in the Resources namespace, then we don't need the "Nearby" section in the main content. We'll use the sidebar for geographic navigation around the city or region described. niko - vinismo 11:43, 19 February 2008 (EST)
- I was thinking that the "Nearby" section would be for places to go winetasting... nearby. Like, for Resources:San Francisco, it would list the Central Coast, Napa Valley, Sonoma County, etc. For Resources:Montreal, it would list that château nearby... I can't remember its name. That kind of thing.
- I'll add a sidebar for resources, though. That is a good idea for things like Resources:Quebec or Resource:Canada. --Evan 11:46, 19 February 2008 (EST)
edit Template unfound
I see you've added some kind of tag to the "latest wines" on the front page. Looks like a great idea!
So, I have this new wine to add there, 2006 MoniClaire Vineyards Dry Creek Valley Estate Zinfandel. Where do I put it now ? niko - vinismo 18:23, 19 February 2008 (EST)
edit New varietal section
So, I changed the whole system for the menu of varietal pages. Now it's just called Varietals and it's linked as such from the left menu. It's easier than before, when we had to synchronise the list of varietals with the template listing varietals. Anyway, I should have thought of this before. I think of doing the same kind of simplification fot countries, too. niko - vinismo 11:03, 21 February 2008 (EST)
edit WBW 45 announced
Quoted from the announcement:
- For next month, I will again host and I’ve picked my favorite white variety, Riesling as the theme. But I wanted to celebrate the wines made where I think the best examples are found in Northern Europe. So pick up a wine made from Riesling grown in Germany, France’s Alsace, Austria, Northern Italy, the Czech Republic or Slovenia and post your notes by May 7th.

edit Discussion pages
Do you think we should give Talk pages a little push to make them more accessible? The link to an article's talk page is hard to find right now. Do you know to which extent Talk pages are a popular feature in Wikis? Do lots of people use them or just a handful of people? If so, they are the kind of people who'll manage to find the link to the talk page without help. So.... In your experience, do you think they're useful and should be more proeminent in Vinismo? nikolai35 18:00, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
- I think we should make a more prominent discussion link, yes. Another option is using on-page comments, maybe using http://js-kit.com/ --Evan 19:32, 12 May 2008 (EDT)
edit Bug?
The status of the article appearing at the bottom of each page links to an empty page (not even an editable one!)
edit Feature/Style Guide issue
It might help people new to wine if pages give the pronunciation of the names of wines, grapes etc. Perhaps even links to a sound file. Most names come from French and other languages, and it may be hard to know how they should be pronounced...
edit The Mystery of the Ghost Article
Seriously, what's going on with Vinismo:Article_status? That is so strange. nikolai35 19:16, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
edit Italy/Italian
Hi Evan. I've been working on the article on Wine tourism at Wikitravel. When I asked cacahuate for help with the US section of the article, he suggested I should talk to you and check out Vinismo. Looks pretty neat!
On Wikitravel I've been working on a few pages about Italian wine tourism, and I might be able to help a bit here too, if you need a hand. Although I am no expert, I know something about Italian wine and speak Italian pretty well.
I would be happy to hear what you think! The next couple of weeks I will be unavailable as I am in Italy, but let's get back to this when I return. --Timo Laine 16:44, 24 June 2008 (EDT)
