Wines of Thailand

From Vinismo

Jump to: navigation, search

Thailand is a wine-producing country.

Common belief is that wine can only be made between the 30th and 50th degrees latitude north and south. This however has changed over the last ten years as many countries outside this range, such as Thailand, have presented wines of high quality to consumers and wine writers alike. In 2004 local wine writer Frank Norel, has coined the appropriate term "New Latitude Wine".

There have been numerous articles on Thai wine, however the most striking statement came from world-renowned wine writer Stuart Pigott. In his article "Thai-Wine-Land" (The World of Fine Wine), Mr. Pigott states "The country has not only chateaux, but red and white wines which expert tasters think must be French."
