The Médoc Cru Bourgeois classification was established informally in 1932 but did only become an official, government-approved classification in 2003.
247 vineyards have been selected (off 490 submissions) to appear in the classification. It is divided in three categories, by order of merit: Crus Bourgeois (151 Crus), Crus Bourgeois Supérieurs (87 Crus), and Crus Bourgeois Exceptionnels (9 Crus).
