Portugal : Indicação de Proveniência Regulamentada
Indicacão de Proveniencia Regulamentada or IPR is a Portuguese appellation system. IPR appellations are often seen as a step toward DOC classification, like VDQS appellations in France for example.
There are only five IPR appellations in Portugal: Chaves, Valpaços and Planalto-Mirandés in the Trás-os-Montes region, and Alcobaça and Encostas de Aire in the Estremadura region.

IPR appellations are defined by certain areas of production, authorized varietals, vinification methods, and maximum yields.
