Hewitson is a producer in South Australia. It produces wines in the appellations Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu.

edit Company profile

Hewitson produces traditionally-made, expressive wines, by combining Old-World winemaking techniques with New-World knowledge and understanding. All their red wines finish fermentation in French oak barrels especially made and imported. Each vineyard is specifically kept separate throughout fermentation and maturation to preserve its terroir, or unique character.

edit History

Hewitson was founded in 1998 by winemaker Dean Hewitson. He chose a region of South Australia where he could find the oldest vineyards, many of them planted pre-phylloxera and more closely linked to the original vines of Europe than anywhere else in the world.

Hewitson is based on the edge of Adelaide at the Old Dairy Cold Stores. Built in the late 1800s with thick, cork-lined walls and a naturally cool environment, the Old Dairy is perfect for the cellaring and maturation of fine wine.
