Created in 1953 and completed in 1959, the Graves Cru classification lists exceptional vineyards in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. It was created partly in reaction to the Grand Cru classification of 1855 which only listed one Graves, Château Haut-Brion. That wine is also listed in this classification, making it the only Bordeaux to be classé twice.
Aside from its organization by color and municipality of origin, the Graves Cru classification doesn't have any hierarchy (such as "1st Cru", "2nd Cru", etc.).
