• Official area: 11,000,000 acres / 4,500 hectares
• Planted area: 6,690 acres / 2,700 hectares
• Main varietals: Merlot, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Syrah.
• This appellation contains the AVA appellations of Red Mountain, Yakima Valley, Walla Walla Valley, Wahluke Slope and Horse Heaven Hills within its borders.

The growing season lasts for 180 to 200 days with annual rainfall averaging 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm).
